Falernia is from a valley known as "Magic," named so due to the beauty of the stars and the moon in the crystal clear night sky. That herbal edge carries on the palate, with a certain leathery note but also a fine, very cool linearity with delicious chocolaty notes and a touch of sweetness and lift. Becomes chocolaty and lip-smacking, with great richness abut freshness too. The grapes of this wine are from the “Rio” vineyard located in the Vicuña area and were hand picked very late at the beginning of June; two additional months on the vines to gain more concentration. The grapes were partially dried. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with pistons to facilitate extraction of soft tannins, and to produce the colour and aromas of over-ripe fruits. Aging took place in barrels of French oak for six to eight months. Tololo, one of the most important telescopes in the world, is located in the area. Vicuna, the small town of the valley, is the birthplace of the great Chilean female poet Gabriela Mistral. Falernia winery is located in the Elqui Valley near the small town of La Serena, 300 miles north of Santiago and it is at the present , Chile's northermost wine estate. The climate is semiarid with a dramatic contrast between day and night time temperature during the ripening season.
